It’s fall… time to give your retractable screens a clean!

Close of latching handles for Phantom retractable screen doors

Unlike traditional fixed screens that you need to take down and store over the winter to avoid damage, Phantom’s retractable screens simply disappear into their protective housings and stay cozy, snug and safe until you need them again.
Fall’s a great time to get your screens ready for winter, so it’s worth taking a little bit of time to make sure they’re in tip top condition for next year.
All you need to do is take three simple steps, which will take a matter of minutes, and you’ll be good to go!

Make a clean sweep

The first thing to do is sweep the tracks where the mesh runs. Use a vacuum cleaner or a soft brush to remove all the dirt and debris. It’s also a good idea to perform the same sweep before you start using the screens again too.

Wipe the tracks and slide bar

Using non-abrasive detergent and a soft cloth or sponge, give the tracks on the top and bottom of the screen (or the left and right if you’ve got motorized screens or window screens) a wipe. That way you’ll take off any greasy spots or fingerprints and keep everything spic and span and ready for the warmer weather.

Dry silicone spray

And the final step in getting your screens ready for their winter hibernation is to give the tracks a good spray with dry silicone spray. Your local authorized Phantom Screens representative will be able to supply you the Phantom-branded spray, or you can use another brand. Just make sure it’s a dry silicone-based spray.

And that’s it. So now you’ll have clean screens and one less job to do this fall.
