There’s no reason that you have to bring the party inside after the sun sets. Outdoor living spaces are perfect for gatherings with family and friends, but you don’t want to be left in the dark when nature’s best light bulb isn’t there to shine. Additionally, lighting solutions improve the overall safety and security of your home.
“As consumers continue to ‘nest’ within the comforts of their homes, outdoor sanctuaries have become the new rooms to live and entertain in, from dawn to dusk and well beyond,” Maria Burk, Kichler Landscape Lighting product manager told ARA Content. “When you invest in beautiful outdoor areas, you should incorporate your own personal taste, and highlight the best features of your home and garden.”
If you are looking to enhance your backyard, patio or pool area with unique lighting solutions, consider one of these designs and never be left without illumination again:

Lanterns

Producing soft lighting throughout your backyard, lanterns are classic and subtle. These hanging fixtures come in a variety of shapes, sizes and designs so you can easily find something to match the rest of your outdoor decor. Consider tree lanterns that emulate the traditional cage style or more contemporary options crafted with paper or plastic. Lanterns let off a romantic glow that is perfect for an evening of cocktails. These lighting solutions may feature LED bulbs or flameless candles for a safe and efficient radiance.

Walkway lighting

Not only is walkway lighting good for safety – you don’t want anyone to fall walking through your backyard, after all – it is subtle and perfectly blends with the rest of the design. Walkway lighting can be embedded right into the stones or pavement or simply along the side of a wall shining down. Either way, this type of lighting can be solar powered for an environmentally friendly design. Lights installed along a wall will add a whole new visual to your outdoor style because the cascading illumination will create soft shadows.

Sconces

Homeowners often opt for sconces near outside doorways so it’s easy to see the knob and deter intruders. But sconces are now a great option throughout your outdoor living spaces, including around the deck, near the pool and more. There are many designs that are ideal for wet conditions, so you don’t have to be wary about placing them in areas where they will be in contact with the elements. Sconces emit lots of light, so they are ideal for large spaces.

String lighting

While this option isn’t wireless, string lighting adds stunning illumination outdoors and is incredibly versatile. If you have a pergola, bulb lights can be hung along the edge to provide safe light to walk by. String lights emit more lighting than you may have imagined and they can add brilliance to any area of your outdoor living space. A string along the fence of your pool will provide enough light for a nighttime dip, or strings surrounding your deck will make the space warm and welcoming.

Fire

Why not kill two birds with one stone and install a fire feature to bring light and warmth into your outdoor space? Whether it is a movable or permanent fixture, fire adds the perfect cozy glow so your guests feel right at home. If you aren’t a fan of fire pits, a patio heater can add a similar effect and can be placed throughout the space.
