Maintaining the Cadillac of screens.

Because Phantom Screens retract when not in use, they require way less maintenance than an actual Cadillac—or a traditional screen. Here are some tips to keep yours in tip-top shape.

Tips to keep your motorized screen purring like a kitten.

  • If an object prevents your screen from lowering, lift the slidebar up manually and remove the obstacle.
  • If the slidebar is not level, use the remote control to lower the mesh until the slidebar is level.
  • If a light doesn’t come on when the remote control’s buttons are pressed, replace its battery.
  • Don’t operate your screen in winds in excess of 25 mph.
  • During cold weather with snow and ice, ensure your screen is fully retracted into the casing to prevent damage.
  • Power interruptions may affect your screen’s operation. Ensure that power is still getting to the unit by checking circuit breaker and ground faults for resetting.

Tips to keep your retractable screen gliding like a swan.

  • Keep your screens retracted when they’re not in use.
  • If the mesh is wet, allow it to dry before retracting it into the casing.
  • Keep the tracks clean of dirt and debris, and lubricate them with Phantom’s greaseless silicone spray.
  • Once or twice a season, clean the mesh and casing with water, mild detergent, and a soft brush—never use harsh chemicals or a pressure washer

Tips to keep your motorized vinyl screen sliding.

  • For 48 hours after installation, keep the slidebar lowered almost to the ground, in order to help the vinyl straighten.
  • Only roll the vinyl up when it is completely dry, otherwise you risk clouding. This is why we recommend you roll up the vinyl every night to prevent dew or trapped moisture.
  • Don’t leave the vinyl rolled up for a prolonged period of time.
  • Expect creases or ripples in the weld or perimeter vinyl, and remember that the ripples will soften and disappear when unrolled in the warmth of the sun.
  • Remember that in cold temperatures the vinyl will be stiff and move less easily. Never use the vinyl when temperatures dip below freezing.
  • Be safe: when rolling or unrolling the vinyl, make sure there are no obstacles impeding it.
  • Never wash the vinyl with a pressure washer. Instead, hose it down to remove salt or grit. Then wash it with a gentle soap using a soft cloth.
  • Remember that grit or particles will scratch the vinyl and cloud it.
  • Never use Rain-X, Pledge, or Plexus on your vinyl, they cause hazing and discoloration.
  • We do recommend you use high-grade polishes like IMAR Strataglass™ Polish or Collinite Insulator Wax to restore your vinyl’s sheen.

Contact your local Phantom expert. Fixing or replacing the screen yourself will negate the warranty.

Phantom’s screens are designed to blend in with your décor and become part of your home. Our warranty covers the screens for the original purchaser and for the lifetime of the home. Removing your screen would negate your warranty.

We recommend using a vacuum or rag to clean your screen’s track. Plus, regularly lubricating the tracks with Phantom’s greaseless silicone spray will ensure that the screen operates smoothly. (Note that this is a special type of dry silicone specifically intended for the screen, and using any other type of lubricant (e.g. WD40) could damage your screen.)
