New American Home
- Overview:
- Co-sponsored by NCHI and Builder magazine, The New American Home® was constructed in 2008 using a systems-engineering approach that incorporates NAHB’s Green Building Guidelines and the U.S. Department of Energy’s Building America Program. The New American Home is a ‘real-world’ laboratory demonstrating concepts, materials, designs and construction techniques that can be replicated — in whole or in part — in housing built any place and in any price range.
- Need:
- Without walls to divide or define, this outdoor area is perfect for entertaining and relaxing. The builders sought to find a screen solution that would provide insect protection. Since it was important to maintain the visibility from the lanai to the pool, the screens had to also provide a clear view to the outside and stay out of sight when not in use.
- Solution:
- In order to make full use of the space, nine motorized retractable Executive Screens were installed on the rear lanai area adjacent to the pool and outdoor living areas. Designed for fully recessed installation, the units completely disappear into the arched openings of the lanai. Mesh selected is 18/14 insect mesh in charcoal finish, providing excellent protection from pests and a high level of air flow (55%) without impeding the view from the lanai and covered outdoor living areas. The motorized screens are controlled by radio frequency remotes and are integrated with the home’s automation system.
