McCarthy Care Center

Overview:: McCarthy Care Center in Sandwich, Massachusetts is Cape Cod’s only hospice with an in-patient unit, and one of only three care centers in Massachusetts. The facility provides short-term acute symptom management & patient stabilization in a private, beautiful home-like setting for patients who cannot be safely or effectively cared for at home.
Need:: The care center needed to comply with Massachusetts Department of Public Health regulation which requires screens to be installed on residents’ doors that open to the outside. At the same time, the management didn't want to sacrifice the view of the outside surroundings. They needed to find a screen solution that would provide natural ventilation, insect protection, and natural daylight when screens are not being used.
Solution:: Phantom Screens installed 10 custom color matched double-French Professional door screens to metal clad in-swing Eagle doors. The screens open onto private decks for each of the residents’ rooms, providing access to fresh air outside while preventing insects from entering living spaces. Natural daylight to the rooms is maximized when insect protection is not required; the screens are retracted into their protective housings to restore unobstructed views from the double-French glass doors.
